Tackling Opioids through Prevention for Athletes Conference

Join us for the Annual TOP Conference, held virtually on May 21st, 2021. The Tackling Opioids through Prevention [TOP] for Athletes Initiative is intended to help raise awareness of the risks associated with opioid use among student-athletes, and to provide evidence-based information to strengthen policies and practices within schools, athletic departments, and community-based athletic programs.
Topics presented by the Alliance of Social Workers in Sports Panelists include:
- Red Flags and Barriers to Treatment; why they start to use, signs to look for indicating possible use, educational barriers to treatment/services, effects of COVID resulting in higher risk of injury increasing risk of use.
- Addressing the issue from a Systems Perspective: Culture, Access to drugs, Addiction, and How to be part of the solution.
- Strategies for Families in Understanding and Interrupting Substance Use, Abuse, and Addiction.
- Neurological effects of opioids, how opioids impact the brain and, therefore, performance. Neurological-based skills to managing pain more effectively.
