Being an out and proud member of the LGBTQ+ community within the substance use recovery community is an empowering and transformative experience. It is a journey of embracing one’s authentic self while navigating the challenges of addiction recovery. By openly embracing my identity, I have found solace, support, and understanding from fellow community members who share similar struggles. In this safe and inclusive space, I have been able to address not only my substance use issues but also the unique challenges that arise from being LGBTQ+. Sharing my story and experiences with others has not only fostered a sense of belonging but has also created opportunities for advocacy and education. By proudly standing in my truth, I hope to inspire others within the recovery community to embrace their identities and find strength in their journey to lasting sobriety.
