Funds to Support Recovery and Prevention Programs
Rockaway, N.J. (May 25, 2021) – Prevention Is Key (PIK), a north Jersey-based non-profit substance misuse prevention and recovery support agency, announced today that it has received grant funding from the Passaic County Department of Human Services for both its Addiction Recovery Support Services program and its Prevention program.
The Addiction Recovery Support Services initiative, operated through CARES (Center for Addiction Recovery, Education and Success), is a 12-month program aimed at reducing substance abuse, connecting individuals to recovery services, treatment programs and resources and supporting people on their paths to recovery. The $105,219 grant will help support volunteer opportunities, Narcan Rescue Trainings, peer to peer recovery coaching, case management, linkages to services and navigation to treatment, life skills training, educational/vocational connections, employment readiness, multiple pathways of recovery mutual aid groups, recovery-friendly events and social gatherings, telephone recovery support with a 24/7 recovery support line and
CRAFT (Community Reinforcement and Family Training) with one-on-one support from a CRAFT-trained family peer and a weekly support group
PIK’s Prevention Division was also awarded $40,697 to expand its services to Passaic County, working to prevent the onset of substance use disorder among Passaic County youth, ages 12-20. The 12-month project will increase awareness of the consequences of youth substance use among County residents through community awareness campaigns, evidence-based youth and family prevention training and workshops, and most especially with educating school-based personnel about the benefits of Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to treatment (SBIRT), the only screening tool recommended by SAMHSA for the early identification and treatment of substance use disorder among youth.
“We are immensely grateful to the Passaic County Department of Human Services for awarding us these generous grants,” said Christopher Goeke, Executive Director of PIK. “We look forward to advancing our progress in meeting our recovery and prevention objectives and achieving our mission as an organization.”
About Prevention Is Key
Prevention is Key (PIK) is a 501(c)3 organization that has successfully delivered culturally competent, evidence-based prevention services in Morris County and the surrounding counties for almost 25 years. The agency was founded in 1989 to coordinate substance misuse prevention in Morris County. From our roots as a resource center and awareness campaigns with a modest budget, to our current implementation of both direct service and environmental change strategies, including our recent addition of the Center for Addiction Recovery and Success (CARES) Peer to Peer Recovery Center, has made PIK the premiere substance misuse prevention agency in north central New Jersey.
