Rebecca Minarik

Title: Peer Recovery Specialist

Department: CARES

What are your primary duties? I provide guidance and support to recovering people in the community, while fostering relationships with peers to build a foundation for which I can help them throughout their journey in recovery, however they define it.

Where did you go to school and what did you study? I have a B.S. in biology from Virginia Tech, a B.A. in psychology from Kean University, and a teaching certification in secondary science.

How many years have you worked in the field? I have worked in the field for over two years.

Why do you work in the field? I decided to work in the field in order to pay it forward for those who helped me throughout my own long, challenging and ongoing journey in recovery, to reduce the stigma attached to people with substance use and mental health disorders, and to honor my numerous family members and friends whom I have lost to addiction and who were so desperately in need of the unconditional love and support that we offer here at CARES.
