As always, I’m excited about the Prevention Team’s ongoing programs and events that you’ll learn more about later in this newsletter. This fall, though, I’m really excited to talk about a program PIK is hosting with the MC Education Partnership and The Institute of the Center for Great Expectations. The October webinar will focus on Dr. Bruce Perry’s and Oprah Winfrey’s new book, “What Happened to You”?, where –through personal conversations-the two authors
When searching for a good “read”, I often check out book reviews online. When I read reviews about Dr. Bruce Perry’s and Oprah Winfrey’s latest book “What Happened to You? Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing” , I knew I had to read it. After I did, I knew I had to share it with anyone I could!
That being said, I’m so happy to say that PIK , in collaboration with The Institute of The Center of Great Expectations (CGE), is offering a virtual book club webinar on Wednesday, October 20 @ 10 am, when Dr. Ellen Purtell and Mr. Frank Picone will offer insight into the book, followed by a panel discussion with representatives from education, mental health, law enforcement, and families discussing how their awareness of the impact of trauma on youth has changed the way they look at young people—asking now “what happened to you?” rather than “what’s wrong with you”?
Please join us October 20 to learn that we can’t really know anyone (including ourselves) until we understand what happened to them! The PIK prevention team agrees with thousands of reviewers who said, “this book is going to change your life.”
We hope to see you on the 20th
